<address>From Rev.Thomas Carey Catholic Church, Eden Grove, Holloway, London, N.</address> <p>5 August 1916</p> <salute>Dear Sir,</salute> <p>I know that you will be glad <lb/>to learn that your friend Roger Casement <lb/>was reconciled to the Church & made <lb/>his First Confession on last Wednesday <lb/>evening & made his first & last Com-<lb/>munion on the morning of his execution <lb/>on last Thursday. He died with all the <lb/>faith & piety of an Irish peasant woman, <lb/>& had, as far as I could judge, all the <lb/>dispositions, faith, hope, charity - & <lb/>contrition, resignation to God's will ?? ?? <lb/>to meet his Creator. I gave him the <lb/>Holy Father's blessing with Plenary In-<lb/>dulgence attached shortly before his ex-<lb/>ecution & for half-an-hour before <lb/>he followed me in fervent & earnest</p> <!-- This PS is written along the left hand column of the page: --> P.S. Hundreds of Mass were offered for him on the morning of his execution. The Cardinal &<lb/> about 50 priests who were <unclear>retired</unclear> offered Mass for him. I can only say that the friend of all appeared to me <unclear>?</unclear>-al-lin death T.C.
